How to schedule Instagram posts: A guide

Consistently sharing content on Instagram is key to maintaining a strong presence. With so much on a creator or social media manager’s plate, keeping up with daily posting can get hectic.

This is where scheduling tools come in. Scheduling Instagram content can save you time, keep your feed active, and help you strategically plan your posts.

In this blog, we’ll explore how to schedule content on Instagram using various tools, including Instagram’s native features, Meta Business Suite, and PosterMyWall’s publishing suite and Content Planner.

Why Schedule Instagram Content?

Scheduling Instagram content isn’t just convenient, it’s also a smart strategy. Some benefits include:

  • You can follow a consistent posting schedule, keeping your audience hooked to your Instagram.
  • You can plan your content in advance to avoid last-minute stress.
  • Your posts will go live when your audience is most active. No more waking up at 2 AM to post for your international audience!
  • You’ll be able to craft a cohesive feed with thoughtful design and messaging.

Now, let’s dive into the tools you can use to schedule Instagram posts.

Three ways to schedule Instagram Content

Scheduling with Instagram’s Native Tools

Instagram’s native scheduling tools allow professional accounts to schedule content directly within the app with the following steps:

  1. Open the Instagram app, tap the plus icon, and then click on Post or Reel to create your content.
  2. Once you’ve made edits and added a caption, tap ‘More options’ at the bottom of your screen.
  1. Turn on the toggle next to ‘Schedule this post’, select your desired date and time (up to 75 days away), and click ‘Done’.
  1. If you want to make changes to your scheduled posts, open your Instagram profile and tap the menu icon at the top right. Click on Scheduled content, then tap the three dots next to the relevant post or reel to edit, reschedule, share now, or delete it.

This method can schedule up to 25 posts a day. It works for posts and reels but not stories.

Scheduling with Meta Business Suite

Meta Business Suite is a handy tool for managing your Instagram and Facebook accounts. It’s free and offers detailed analytics and scheduling features. Plus, it allows you to post stories, reels, and posts from both desktop and mobile. Here’s how you can use it to schedule Instagram posts:

  1. Log in to Meta Business Suite and link your Instagram account.
  2. Click Content in the left menu and then click on Create Post or Create Reel. To create a Story, click the down arrow next to Create post and choose Create Story.
  1. Design your Instagram post. You can add captions, hashtags, and even tag people.
  2. Select your Instagram account under Post to.
  3. Turn on the toggle next to ‘Set date and time’, select your desired time and click ‘Schedule’. Your post will automatically go live at the selected time.

Schedule Instagram content

Once your design is ready, click on ‘Publish’ in the top left corner of the editor. Then select ‘Instagram’ from the list of social platforms and proceed to connect your Instagram business profile to PosterMyWall. Ensure your Instagram business account is linked to a Facebook Page owned by your Facebook account.

Select your Instagram account from the accounts linked to your PosterMyWall account and click ‘Next’. Then you’ll get the option to write a caption for your content and publish it as a post, story, or both.

If you can’t come up with a catchy caption, no worries! PosterMyWall’s AI Captions feature has you covered. Write a prompt, select the tone and length of your caption, and specify whether you want to use hashtags. Then press enter to get four options for the caption. If you don’t like these options, you can change the input or tap ‘More Ideas’ to generate more options.

After you’ve selected a caption and type of content, click the ‘Schedule’ button at the top left corner of the publishing flow. Select the date and time you want your content to go live on Instagram. Then click schedule and you’re all set!

If you want to edit, duplicate, or delete the scheduled post, navigate to the ‘Social Media Posts’, click on the three vertical dots next to your post, and proceed as you wish.

You can view your scheduled posts on the Content Planner, which helps you organize and map out your next content. It also shows all national and international holidays or events to help you plan posts for them.
