Create a beau-tee-ful golf flyer with these 5 tips and templates

You know golf inside out—the differences between the various types of golf clubs, the rules of golf, and how the wind can affect your play. You also have a pretty ace golf swing technique.

But having to design a golf flyer to market your golf course? You’re just staring at a blank canvas, wishing that you were holding a golf club instead of a computer mouse.

Not everyone is a professional graphic designer, and that’s okay. With a user-friendly design editor like PosterMyWall, and knowledge of basic design techniques, you’ll be creating stunning marketing flyers for your golf course in no time!

To get you started, here are five simple but effective tips for adding polish to your golf flyers. We’ll also provide templates for launching your next flyer project. This way, you won’t have to begin with an intimidating blank screen!

1. Embed eye-catching images of your golf course

You’ve taken great pains to keep your golf course neat and attractive, so show it off in your flyer! When people see how beautiful your golf course is, they might just fall in love with it and view your flyer in more detail.

For example, here’s a flyer that Machynys Golf Club & Spa designed to promote a golf championship:

The business has included a gorgeous Instagram photo of its golf course taken at sunset. Looking at the photo can conjure dreamy visions of watching golfers play during golden hour—and a desire to attend the championship!

We also like how Machynys Golf Club & Spa has used an elegant image layout in its flyer, which only catches your eye and invites you to keep reading.

2. Choose striking heading fonts for your flyer

Increasing the font size of your flyer’s heading text can help grab attention, but so can picking striking fonts.

That’s because people are generally used to seeing “standard” fonts such as Times New Roman and Arial. If you choose a more unique font for your flyer headings, you’ll hook users and entice them to continue reading the smaller text in your flyer.

Just look at how the large, shiny “SWING HARD!” heading in Westford University College’s flyer is a magnet for attention:

Not sure which fonts to use for your headings? Depending on your brand guidelines, Metropolis, League Spartan, Sketchetik, or Zelda may be great options. Learn more about these fonts—and other modern poster fonts—in our separate article.

3. Feature your players

If you’re holding a golf tournament, seize the opportunity to showcase the players in your flyers. Especially if the players are VIPs or well known—because if their fans learn that they will be playing at your tournament, they might grab tickets to be there right away!

This golf tournament flyer by LADY GO uses this technique beautifully:

To feature Chie Arimura and Erina Hara in the flyer, LADY GO removed the background from images of both players before inserting the edited images in its design. It also used tasteful fonts for the players’ names to add a touch of style.

The images of Arimura and Hara have also been chosen well. Check out how Arimura is in a white outfit, while Hara is in black. Such color contrast only increases the flyer’s visual appeal!

4. Write compelling calls to action

You’re spending time and effort to make flyers to promote something—be it your golf course, an upcoming tournament, or something else. So use calls to action to tell people what they should do after viewing your flyer!

For example, you might want them to:

  • Sign up to play in your golf championship
  • Buy tickets to catch the tournament
  • Drop by for a few rounds at your golf course

In this Golf Day flyer, Just Marbella Golf has opted for a simple call to action of “Sign Up Below…” Under the call to action, it has also added a website link and phone number that users can use to sign up.

While designing your flyer, you can’t hide your calls to action in one tiny corner and expect potential customers to hunt them down.

Display your calls to action prominently, and use bright colors and attractive fonts (see point #2 above) to help people spot and read your calls to action with ease.

5. Add a QR code to your flyer

Unlike websites, flyers aren’t clickable. In other words, people can’t click the links in flyers to be automatically brought to another online destination.

As a workaround, they could manually type the links into their browsers. But if your links are especially long (such as “www.golfcourse.com/events/golf-tournament-2022/registration-form”), users may not bother with the hassle. Not great news for the effectiveness of your flyer campaign.

Adding QR codes to your flyer can make such issues a thing of the past. Each of these black-and-white squares contains an embedded link, and users can scan the QR code with their phone to visit the relevant link. Talk about convenience!

For example, take a look at the QR code in this flyer by Just Marbella Golf:

Creating QR codes for your own flyer links in PosterMyWall is a piece of cake. Simply paste your link into our built-in QR code generator and we’ll turn the link into a QR code for you.

After that, position the QR code in your flyer. We suggest moving the QR code to a nice blank space in your flyer, such as what the golf flyer template below offers.
